Red 2019 Honda Civic Hatchback Sport Touring

During the COVID-19 pandemic, both you and your car have likely spent much more time at home than you ever anticipated. But while you've been sitting inside at a desk working at your computer, your car has just spent day after day in your driveway or garage. While you may have assumed not driving your car could not hurt it in any way, the fact is driving a car for little, if any, for a prolonged period can lead to various issues. To keep your vehicle and yourself safe and sound during the pandemic, follow these tips.

Drive Your Car

While we here at Cardinal Honda know you're not driving to and from work each day, we still suggest you take your car out for a short spin now and then to keep it in great shape. In most cases, this means only taking a 15-20 minute drive every two weeks or so. By doing this, you can keep hoses and belts from drying out and cracking, prevent tires from wearing out unevenly, and also keep rust from forming underneath your car.

Look for Signs of Damage

When you have a break from your Zoom meetings or other work, take a few minutes to go out to your vehicle and look for signs of potential damage. To do so, you can pop the hood and start by examining the belts and hoses to see if anything is cracked or broken. Also, you can check the pressure in your tires to see if any of them need a burst of air.

Keep Up with Routine Maintenance

Last but not least, do all you can during the pandemic to keep up with your car's routine maintenance. This should include getting regular oil changes, having windshield wipers replaced if needed, and other typical maintenance tasks. Since you may be able to sit inside your vehicle while a technician performs these and other services, you won't have to worry about putting your health at risk while keeping your vehicle in excellent condition.

While it can be easy to forget about your vehicle's maintenance needs during these unprecedented times, doing so can lead to unanticipated problems and repair costs. Since we here at Cardinal Honda want you and your vehicle to remain safe, following these tips will do just that.
