Comparing the Honda CR-V and the Nissan Rogue in Groton CT

When it comes to blending comfortable seating, extra cargo capacity, and well-behaved driving dynamics, the compact crossover has emerged as the tried-and-true choice of Connecticut drivers. Two leaders in this rapidly growing segment are the Honda CR-V and the Nissan Rogue. At first glance, these models appear to offer similar experiences. However, closer inspection reveals the CR-V to be better suited to the needs of New London families, commuters, and weekend travelers.

Honda CR-V vs. Nissan Rogue: Performance

  • When comparing standard and available engine options, the Honda CR-V comes out clearly ahead. Its 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine generates 184 horsepower and 180 pound-feet of torque. The Nissan Rogue, on the other hand, lags behind; offering just 170 horsepower and 175 pound-feet of torque.

In the real world, the Honda CR-V is just faster, with a zero to 60-mph time of 7.5 seconds, to the Rogue's 9.3 seconds.

  • In addition to the base engine, the Honda CR-V offers a 1.5-liter turbocharged option that increases both horsepower and fuel efficiency. It generates 190 horsepower and achieves EPA-estimated fuel economy ratings of 28 mpg city, 34 mpg highway, and 30 mpg combined. The Nissan Rogue does not offer an additional turbocharged engine option.

  • Despite its slightly larger dimensions, the Honda CR-V offers better steering and handling than the Nissan Rogue. According to the experts at, the CR-V handles well on winding roads and its steering gives a feeling of "precision and confidence1."

Honda CR-V vs. Nissan Rogue: Utility

  • A hallmark of a good crossover SUV is its overall utility-it's in the name, after all. The Honda CR-V shines in this regard, offering Norwich drivers 39.2 cubic feet of cargo room behind the rear seats. If you need even more space, those seats fold down easily to reveal nearly 76 cubic-feet of maximum cargo capacity. The CR-V also boasts an adjustable cargo floor, so you can choose between a flat loading surface or extra room.

  • The Nissan Rogue provides 32 cubic-feet behind the second row. While good for the segment, it doesn't measure up to the CR-V. Maximum cargo capacity for the Rogue is 70 cubic-feet.

  • When the adventures grow, often cargo needs do too. With that in mind, the Honda CR-V is capable of towing up to 1,500 pounds. Conversely, the Nissan Rogue is limited to just 1,100 pounds.

Honda CR-V vs. Nissan Rogue: Interior

  • The Honda CR-V offers Waterford drivers a roomy and thoughtfully arranged interior with generous front and rear accommodations for adult-sized passengers. Entering and exiting the vehicle is a breeze, and the driver has an excellent view of the road in all directions, thanks to minimal blind spots. Quality materials and classy style elements run throughout the cabin, with calling it "a well-built vehicle in every respect1.

  • Save for a few cargo area squeaks, the Nissan Rogue is generally well-assembled; with few, if any, unforgivable quality weaknesses. However, it doesn't quite equal the overall refinement and usability of the CR-V. The Rogue also suffers from thick rear pillars that significantly hinder visibility.
