Stonington High School Honors

The Brave Of September 11th

STONINGTON, CT - The football field was filled with 3,000 tiny American flags. From one sideline to the other on every five-yard marker, around the perimeter, across the end zones. And as residents filed into the bleachers, a full moon started its ascent over the goalposts. The soothing started from the moment  the crowd began flowing in. It wasn't an overwhelming crowd - not a Thanksgiving Day football game crowd,  but a respectable showing. The soothing continued when young men who were little kids 10 years ago unfurled a huge American flag, provided by Cardinal Honda,  to which they  pledged allegiance before a full-voiced junior sang the "Star Spangled Banner."
