The Importance of Oil Changes

We all know that it is important to have your oil changed. However, not everyone knows why. Just what does oil do, and why does it need to be replaced? We're here to help answer those questions.

Your engine is composed of many moving parts. Normally while your engine runs, they would rub together, producing friction and heat. Over time this would cause them to degrade, and eventually your engine would break down. That's where oil comes in. Oil lubricates your engine parts, reducing friction, and it carries heat away from the moving parts. Instead of the heat breaking down your engine, it breaks down your oil instead. However, your oil won't last forever. The heat causes it to break down, and eventually it does not perform its job as effectively. If it goes too long without being changed, it can even form a sludge and clog up parts of your engine! It is important to change your oil before this happens.

It depends on the make and model of your car, but a good rule of thumb is to change your oil every 5,000 miles, or every six months, whichever comes first. The experts in our service center will have your oil changed in no time flat, so if it's coming up on that time again, schedule an appointment today! Your engine will thank you.
